The Verb Game
You will need: kitchen timer
Again, this game should only take 5-10 minutes daily. Explain to your child that
many verbs may be acted out. Do not drag this game out. Take turns with your
child acting out verbs. One will pantamime the verb while the other needs to
guess it. (e.g., eating, sleeping, snoring tended to be a great hit around here as
well as burping, barking, walking, running, etc.). Take turns miming various
verbs.
Verb Practice
Verbally fill in the blanks with verbs.
Example: The dog barked. (Ask what the verb did, e.g., “What barked?” to identify noun)

Tell what the noun (subject) does (verb). Think of as many verbs (predicates) as
you can!

Noun / Verb Fun
A sentence must have a noun (subject) and a verb (predicate).
You will need color pencils!
First, underline the verb (predicate) two times in green (like go at a stop light.
Remember, verbs may frequently tell action!)
Second, underline the noun (subject) one time in orange.
Example: The gate crashed.
(Ask what the verb did, e.g., “What crashed?” to identify the noun)
Girls sing.
Birds chirp.
The sun shines.
Diamonds sparkle.
Serpents creep.
Rivers flow.
Dogs play.
Mice nibble.
Rats gnaw.
Birds fly.
Water freezes.
Lambs frisk.
Cattle low.
Smoke rises.

Noun / Verb Fun
A sentence must have a noun (subject) and a verb (predicate).
You will need color pencils!
First, underline the verb (predicate) two times in green (like go at a stop light.
Remember, verbs may frequently tell action!). Second, underline the noun
(subject) one time in orange.
Always do your verb (predicate) first !!!!
Now we will diagram! With your green color pencil, write your verb (predicate)
on the right side. (Remember to ask what the verb did, e.g., “What roars?” to identify noun).
With your orange color pencil, write your noun (subject) on the left side.
Example:
Thunder roars. Thunder roars

Verb Activities
Make a collage on either construction paper or on poster board illustrating various
verbs (e.g., running, sleepling, jumping, walking, playing, etc.)
Your child might also enjoy making his/her own book out of construction paper
illustrating various verbs from well-beloved nursery rhymes and stories. (e.g.,
Humpty Dumpty, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, etc.)
